Abendland - Working Method

Scenery Working method Trailer

Synopsis:
After a protest action against forest clearing, the masked activist Angela M. falls into a ravine. Injured and stranded, she wanders through the forest until she finally discovers an isolated commune whose inhabitants are looking for an alternative to the failed German state.

Working method:
The main challenge of this project was to build the village, the dwellings of this community deep in the forest, mainly in the form of tree houses.
During the search for locations in nature, in the forests, the desire manifested itself to do a "no-waste” project, as far as the set design was concerned.
In terms of content, this was also very well justified, because the inhabitants in the film would also have gathered their house-building materials, furniture and other inventory from leftovers of civilization. It was very pleasing to see how many contact points, such as the “Material Mafia” in Berlin or the “Materialvermittlung” in Dresden, as well as many material exchanges via apps, now function well. The storage in “Adlershof” was also very accommodating when it came to returns and exchanges.

Of course, the construction work at dizzying heights was unusual.
For example, our construction company "Bühnenfisch" had no secure terrain either on the ground or at height, apart from the deliveries in impassable, densely overgrown forest, which we naturally wanted to protect. Even with trained tree climbers, the construction of the tree houses took about three times as long as it would have taken on the ground.
For me, the repeated collaboration with my students in Dresden was also an absolute gain. Omer Fast also went to Dresden several times to get the students well involved.
Since all the actors in the film were masked throughout, there was also a wonderful collaboration with the make-up artists of the HfbK.
(Similar to the previous film "Werk ohne Autor" with the painting course of study).
